Alexa Bliss will look to retain her Raw Women’s Championship against incredible odds when “The Goddess” battles Sasha Banks, Nia Jax and Emma in a Fatal 4-Way Match at No Mercy.
A four-time Women’s Champion, Sasha is poised to reclaim her title after losing it to Alexa on the Aug. 28 edition of Monday Night Raw. The Boss has proven herself a ground-breaking Superstar time and time again, going to battle in everything from WWE Iron Man Matches to the first-ever Women’s Hell in a Cell Match. She is an extremely dangerous competitor with no love lost for the current titleholder, and it’s safe to say she will be out to prove ignorance is Bliss at WWE No Mercy.
While the dominant Nia Jax has been a consistent threat to the Raw Women’s Title, her friendship with Alexa has often clouded the issue. That all changed just moments after Little Miss Bliss regained the gold from Sasha. Though Nia appeared to be coming to the ring to congratulate the new champ, the celebration quickly took a destructive turn when the Samoan Superstar suddenly dropped her best friend to the canvas without warning. The message was loud and clear: Nia Jax is coming for the Raw Women’s Championship at all costs.
Then, there’s the X-Factor. While the WWE No Mercy showdown was originally intended to be a one-one-one clash between Alexa and Sasha, Emma and Nia overcame The Boss and the titleholder in a tag team bout to make it a Fatal 4-Way Match. Emma claims to be instrumental in bringing about the Women’s Revolution, and she will surely be hungry to solidify her place at the top of the mountain on Sunday, Sept. 24.
While a Fatal-4-Way certainly stacks the odds against the reigning titleholder, as she doesn’t have to be pinned or submit to lose her championship, don’t count out Alexa just yet. “The Goddess” stands as a two-time Raw Women’s Champion, a two-time SmackDown Women’s Champion and the first (and still only) Superstar to ever hold both of those titles. Whether you like her or hate here, the ruthless competitor has accumulated so much success in such a brief time because she is just that good.
Who will walk out of WWE No Mercy with the Raw Woman’s Title? Find out Sunday, Sept. 24, at 8 ET/5 PT, streaming live on award-winning WWE Network.
Alexa Bliss def. Sasha Banks to become the new Raw Women’s Champion
The Brooklyn Curse may have been broken, but Sasha Banks fell victim to yet another bit of bad juju that has dogged her: losing the Raw Women’s Championship in her first defense.
This time, Alexa Bliss dethroned The Boss in their SummerSlam rematch to become a two-time Raw Women’s Champion, though Bliss certainly isn’t about to saunter into the sunset unscathed. The Boss was firmly in control of the bout and well on her way to fulfilling a pre-match promise to make Little Miss Bliss tap out, despite having taken a couple of strong forearms to the face. But the wily Alexa bounced Sasha gullet-first off the top rope and planted her nemesis with a brutal DDT for the win.
Sasha’s night wasn’t over, as Nia Jax made her way to the squared circle to congratulate Alexa before splashing The Boss in the corner and hoisting Alexa on her shoulders. That said, Alexa’s night wasn’t over either, as Nia backdropped Bliss off her shoulders and held the Raw Women’s Title over her head. Alexa might call that rude. But she should know, when it comes to the title, there’s no such thing.
Live Event Digitals
Fans of WWE television have gravitated to the multi-time women’s champion Alexa Bliss in a short amount of time. The Raw superstar’s work on the microphone, coupled with in-ring ability has made her a favorite among fans despite her devious persona.
Now a new audience will get a glimpse into the life of “Five Feet of Fury” as she joins the cast for Season 7 of the E! reality series Total Divas. She joins fellow new faces Carmella and Nia Jax on the hit show that chronicles the lives of a group of female WWE talent at home, on the road and everywhere in between.
A few days before the 2017 SummerSlam event, Bliss, then with the Raw women’s title on her shoulder, rocked the red carpet at the WWE 2K18 and WWE Supercard Kickoff Event in New York City. There, she took time out to talk about what it has been like putting herself personally out there like never before, for the world to see. For the 26-year-old, there wasn’t much trepidation in signing on to do the series.
“I was really excited to join Total Divas,” she said with a beaming smile. “I watched Total Divas and thought it was a really cool opportunity. It has been so much fun. It’s definitely not what I expected, with cameras 24/7, but it has been really cool. We got to go to Cabo. That’s how I got my pig, Larry-Steve. So, it has been such an amazing experience. I’m really happy I’m doing it.”
It sounds like Larry-Steve may be getting some of the spotlight. We’ll see if Bella dogs Winston and Josie or Natalya’s 2Pawz are willing to share.
Another aspect of Bliss’ life that viewers may get a glimpse into on the show is her relationship with fiancé and fellow pro wrestler Buddy Murphy. The two started out together when Bliss managed the husband-to-be and his tag team partner Wesley Blake for WWE’s developmental brand NXT. They follow the trend with most of the others on the series who are either dating or married to WWE talent. Murphy has already adopted a key to a successful marriage, at least when it comes to if he was okay with Bliss being on Total Divas.
“He goes along with it. He is like, ‘whatever you want babe,’ she said.
Another of Bliss’ relationships the fans are likely to get a good look at it is her friendship with the imposing Jax. The duo, who refer to themselves collectively as “Team Rude,” often post entertaining photos or videos on social media. Expect some laughs when these girls get together.
“She is my best friend. We hang out together. We travel together. We started out on NXT together,” Bliss said.
“The fact that she is there with me and going through the experience with me, it makes it that much better. It’s awesome. Nia and I, besides the Bellas, are kind of the true best friends on the show. I think it brings this new dynamic. Even though the other girls are real tight-knit, we have each other. We have each other’s back.”
When asked for a scoop of what’s to come this season, Bliss remained tight-lipped.
“People can expect a lot of fun,” she said. “A lot of outgoing girls who are very opinionated. There is some definite craziness. However, it’s a great ride and a lot of fun.”
WWE Total Divas returns for Season 7 this fall on E!
True chances at redemption are often fleeting, both in life and in WWE, but Bayley will indeed get that chance when she takes on Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss at SummerSlam.
The Huggable One was riding an unbelievable wave of momentum in the first quarter of 2017, winning the Raw Women’s Championship and successfully defending it at WrestleMania 33. It seemed Bayley was about to have a memorable run with the Raw Women’s crown … and then Alexa Bliss joined Team Red via the 2017 Superstar Shake-up.
Suddenly, Bayley’s lifelong dream resembled something more akin to a night terror. First, Bliss defeated Bayley for the title in her hometown of San Jose, Calif. Then, she brutalized Bayley, both physically and emotionally, leading up to and in the rematch at WWE Extreme Rules. Within the span of two months, Bliss became champion and the self-proclaimed “Goddess of WWE,” and Bayley was, to borrow the phrase, back to being “Just Bayley.”
However, like any great fighter, Bayley rose up, dusted herself off and focused her attention on overthrowing the “Goddess.” After picking up some clutch wins and regaining her mojo in the early summer, Bayley broke all the way back through with a victory over her best friend, Sasha Banks, in a high-stakes match on Raw to earn the opportunity to challenge Bliss for the title at SummerSlam.
And now, at the precipice of the “Goddess’” golden gates, will Bayley be able to put the exclamation point on the comeback story of 2017 by defeating Bliss to regain the Raw Women’s Championship? Or, will Little Miss Bliss deliver another crushing blow to the heart of Bayley by defeating her for the third time in title competition at The Biggest Event of the Summer?
Find out when SummerSlam streams live on WWE Network on Sunday, Aug. 20 with a special start time at 7 ET/4 PT!
